Halloween Activities

Here are some suggestions for
Celebrating Halloween with Seniors

The tip from this list that I liked best -- "Hollow out a pumpkin and use it as your vase" for a fall flower arrangement.

More great ideas are available here: 13 Spooktacular Halloween Activities for Seniors

I especially liked the advice to use decorated balloons for an easier, senior-friendly version of volleyball.

One special takeaway from this article that is easy to forget: If having a barbecue, "keep in mind an elderly adult may not be able to eat some of the food items if they are too spicy."

Senior Citizen Day is Celebrated Annually on August 21

I missed Senior Citizen Day this year but WATE in Knoxville did not.

You can read their article here: Senior Citizen Day: 6 ways to celebrate

WATE suggested that we can celebrate Senior Citizens in a variety of ways. Even a simple phone call to a lonely elderly person -- especially one without access to social media -- can brighten that person's day. And you don't have to wait until next Senior Citizen Day to make a call.
